Disturbing the Routine: A Call for Unity and Peace
Disturbing the Routine: A Call for Unity and Peace
On October 25th, I turned Union Square into a space of disruption and reflection, using my performance as a tool to provoke thought and break people out of their daily routines. My goal was to produce awareness—an intentional interruption to make passersby question the direction of our modern society. Through a visual statement on unity and world peace, I sought to challenge the comfort of personal bubbles, urging people to consider the larger issues that affect us all. I wanted them to pause, to feel a little uncomfortable, and to ask themselves what truly matters: unity over division, peace over conflict.
This performance wasn’t simply a gesture; it was a call to question the societal norms that have made us increasingly disconnected. Even in a city as vibrant as New York, where we are spared the direct horrors of war, the effects of division—political, social, and economic—are deeply felt. With the backdrop of the recent elections, I wanted to highlight the need for critical thought about where we are headed as a modern society. Are we prioritizing what unites us, or are we too fixated on our differences? Are we moving toward peace and cooperation, or allowing ourselves to become complacent in a world increasingly defined by conflict?
Special thanks to Assistant Producer Eli Tatiana Mubarak for supporting this vision and to photographer Dustin Dale Barlow for capturing the raw, honest reactions of those who stopped to engage. This project was a reminder that art can be a powerful catalyst for dialogue and change. Through moments of discomfort and reflection, I hope to inspire deeper awareness of our shared humanity and the urgent need to prioritize unity and peace over division and discord.
